Dr. Mustafa Iftikhar is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon specializing in medical and surgical management of retinal diseases. His expertise includes macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vein occlusions, retinal tears, retinal detachment, and ocular trauma.
Dr. Iftikhar completed his ophthalmology residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins, consistently ranked among the nation’s top eye programs, followed by a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Duke University. Before joining CRI, he served as the Stephen J. Ryan Assistant Chief of Service and Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins, where he led resident education, oversaw all trauma and retinal emergencies through the emergency department, and managed complex retina cases referred from the community.
Dr. Iftikhar is an active clinical researcher with more than 35 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including Ophthalmology, JAMA Ophthalmology, and the American Journal of Ophthalmology. He has presented his work nationally and internationally, including at the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Retina Society. He has been recognized with multiple awards for his research, teaching, advocacy, and patient care.
He is committed to combining the latest advances in retina care with a patient-centered approach and is excited to bring cutting-edge treatments and clinical trials to patients in the Memphis area. He is fluent in English, Urdu, and Hindi. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, visiting national parks, and spending time with family and friends.
