Dr. Wesley Gillette was born and raised in San Luis Obispo, California. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, graduating with Phi Beta Kappa honors. During his undergraduate years, he traveled extensively throughout Central America and Southern Africa, studying global health disparities as part of his academic curriculum.
Dr. Gillette earned his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Greenville, where he was inducted into both the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) for his academic excellence and compassionate care.
He completed his internship in Internal Medicine and Ophthalmology residency at the Texas A&M/Baylor Scott & White Eye Institute, where he served as Chief Resident. During this time, he also participated in global health initiatives, providing care in Honduras, Guatemala, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Gillette went on to complete a 2-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Charles Retina Institute.
Dr. Gillette and his wife, Sarah, have four young children: a 5-year-old son, 3-year-old twin daughters, and a baby boy. Together, they enjoy traveling, language learning, international community development, and serving in medical missions.
